Meet Denny & Becca Of
Privacy On Demand Pool & Lanai Privacy Curtains
|
After receiving a degree from the University of Wisconsin-River
Falls, Denny worked as a mid level executive in a very large
corporation until he decided that the "corporate world" was not
where he wanted to be. When the opportunity came along to join a
much smaller custom woodworking company with a 60,000 square
foot plant and approximately 50 employees in a higher, more
meaningful capacity, he jumped at the chance. He eventually
became part owner and was President of that company for 22
years. |

In 1981 Becca came to work there as a full
charge bookkeeper. She was well qualified for the position with bookkeeping
experience dating back to her time doing accounting in the Marine Corps during
the Viet Nam era in the late 1960's.
They met , fell in love and married in 1983. They just celebrated their 25th
wedding anniversary this past November. In past lives Becca was a professional
singer, performing in nightclubs and stage shows. Denny, on the other hand,
went through his cowboy period, raising and training purebred Arabian horses
on his 80 acre farm back in the 1970s.
Denny and Becca moved to Fort Myers in January of 2000, when they purchased
T&C Canvas, an existing marine canvas business. Becca ran the office, did all
the bookkeeping and paperwork, as well as overseeing the seamstresses. She
handled all the "inside" segments of the business. Denny worked out on the
boats designing, patterning and then installing the finished canvas products.
Having operated the marine canvas shop for several years, they were on the
lookout for ways to diversify the business, as the boating business had been
in decline for some time. A little over a year ago, they had the opportunity
to purchase a distributorship for an exciting new product that had just been
developed that seemed to fit right in with what they were already doing. That
distributorship was Privacy on Demand, a line of custom made outdoor privacy
curtains that attached to the inside of your pool
cage to turn your pool area into your own private retreat whenever the mood
strikes you. Denny was especially interested in this concept, because he had
noticed for some time a growing trend to building large homes on small lots,
resulting in a loss of privacy to the homeowner.
They were impressed with
the unique concept and the quality with which the curtains were made. In fact,
one of the things that stood out to them was the fact that these curtains were
being fabricated from Sunbrella fabric, which was the same material they had
been using for
years to build their boat covers, bimini tops and other marine products. They
were delighted that Privacy on Demand had chosen the high ground and not
picked one of the many less expensive but inferior fabrics that were
available. They signed on as distributors immediately.

In the
last year the outdoor privacy curtains have had such great acceptance that
they decided to get out of the dwindling boat canvas business and concentrate
full time on this exciting new product. It is probably the only practical
solution to the problem of getting some privacy
around your pool area. So far, Denny has seen no competition or other
practical solution. |
What makes them stand out
from some other businesses is their steadfast dedication to service, honesty
and integrity. Denny and Becca both agree that they are not here to make a
fast buck. “We are here for the long run and our
reputation means everything to us. (They both know many of their previous
customers from T&C Canvas will be their future Privacy On Demand customers, so
they are going to stay with their old motto of We will do what
we say we will do, when we say we will do it! They will bend over
backwards for their customers to ensure and maintain their reputation for
quality and service. Becca says, "We have thrown out jobs in progress and
started over rather than try to slip a less than perfect job by the customer.
It costs money at the time but we feel it will come back to us in the form of
increased sales and customer loyalty somewhere down the road."
Becca is a published writer as well as being the current editor-in-chief of a
quarterly woman's digest here in Southwest Florida. She enjoys bead work and
jewelry making. She also teaches safe boating courses to the public through
the Fort Myers chapter of the United States
Power Squadron.
Denny is also an active member of the Power Squadron and enjoys woodworking,
whether it is furniture and crafts, or larger building projects such as decks
and remodeling.
Together they enjoy fishing, boating and motorcycling on their 1100cc Honda
Shadow. Denny says Becca doesn't get to drive! They both have grown children
from previous marriages and enjoy their 6 grandSONS, (no girls yet), every
chance they get.
