Meet the Stillers of Independent A/C -
Abby, Bernie Jr., Bernie Sr., and Hilda

Independent A/C is a true American Dream success story. Bernie Sr. was born in Berlin and raised in Bremen, Germany. His wife, Hilda, was born and raised in Quito, Ecuador. They both met in the biggest melting pot of the United States….New York City.

Bernie Sr. worked for an air conditioning contractor and Hilda was a hematology and oncology laboratory technician. Their son, Bernie Jr. was born in Brooklyn and spent most of his childhood in Long Island until the family moved to Cape Coral in 1986.

Bernie Sr. decided to start his own company, Independent Air Conditioning, Inc. in 1991. At the same time, Hilda retired from her profession to help with the air conditioning business.

During high school and summer breaks from college Bernie Jr. would help out in the family business doing installations, maintenance, and minor repairs. Upon graduation from college he took his place beside his father in the family business.

In 2005, Bernie Jr. met his future wife Abby. She was born in Managua, Nicaragua and has a degree in finance and a real estate license. In the beginning of 2008 she became a part time team member of Independent AC, Inc. assisting with customer service, sales, and networking. Bernie and Abby were married in January of 2009, making this truly a family business.

Over the years, Independent AC, Inc. has grown slowly and steadily making sure not to sacrifice personal attention and customer service. Their philosophy is that word of mouth referrals will always be the main driving force of their company, and if they can't fix it, you don't pay. Whether it be a residential or commercial customer, they service and repair all makes and models. They also service and repair pool heaters and pool pumps, coolers, freezers, soda, ice and shake machines, beer coolers, salad bars, cold plates, chillers, truck refrigeration, marine refrigeration, and heat recovery units.

A green company, they are also indoor air quality specialists, and perform air quality testing, duct cleaning and sanitizing, humidity and stale air removal systems, along with having the largest selection of air filters in Southwest Florida. They stock high efficiency filters and specialize in odd and hard to find sizes and efficiency ratings you will not find in stores.

Independent A/C has a simple mission statement; “We believe in treating others the way we want to be treated and repair things properly while informing and educating our customers. We live and work by a strict code of values, providing the highest standard of quality and professionalism to each person we meet.” One of the Bernies is present at every service or installation and perform repair work. You can also be assured that if you call at any hour of any day, you will talk to one of them directly, not an answering service!
