A typical day
for Joe is teaching at his school, then going to Mathnasium to teach in the
evening. This is a man on an educational mission. This is a man you want
helping your kids!
Besides currently holding three degrees in education, he is continuing his
schooling by working on two additional degrees through Nova Southeastern
University for his doctoral degree in education. He has always loved to work with those that are
struggling in math and/or those who feel they just cant do it. Struggling students
are a challenge to him, and he excels at finding what works for them.
Seeing "the light come on" and a student "getting it" is his greatest joy. Joe
understands that children don’t hate math. They hate being confused and
intimidated by math. With understanding comes passion.
And with passion comes growth—a treasure is unlocked. Some people are just
meant to teach, and Joe is one of them. Besides, the kids love him.
And they catch his enthusiasm for learning.
| Because of his life long
interest in education and academic pursuits, he is able to bring a unique
perspective to this learning center. He is now intimately involved in the
teaching of material, not merely tutoring in it. Math is not a subject
where someone can be taught a series of steps and expect to apply them to
every single math issue they have. There is a deeper understanding that
comes with effectively working with numbers. Because of his grasp of that
knowledge, Joe has succeeded in getting students and their parents to
understand that. He genuinely searches for what strategy works with each
individual learner. |

Joe has a 7
year old son who enjoys much of his free time. Though his hobbies and
interests lie within the educational realm, his recreational activities
include biking and traveling. He also enjoys political studies and hopes to
write a series of books soon that focus upon the political world and its
affect on educational issues. Currently Joe is part of several business
organizations as well as political action groups. He also dedicates time to
his church as well as the school where he teaches. He has started many
programs at his school, such as adult literacy classes, a math tutoring program,
and a committee in charge of reviewing materials to be used in the school to
raise the scores for struggling students.
